The table tag can be used to your advantage when laying out the information on your website. Besides being somewhat ugly, tables can also be good for positioning things. Look at the table below:

The untrained eye might not see that table for all it is worth, but the HTML expert will immediately notice that that very table can be used to position all the content on his web page.
By placing the opening table tag right after the opening body tag, and by then putting the closing table tag before the end body tag, the entire page will be in a table.
Many different types of tables can be used to build a good layout. Check out these examples below, which you can cut and paste to use on your own site. (In order to get the HTML code I used to write make those tables, simply go to VIEW-->SOURCE and, well, view the source. The code for the tables can be found after the big, white space and the comment.)
